Anti-spam, antivirus and anti-malware
Kernun Mail Access is an appliance that provides security for email correspondence. It contains antivirus and anti-spam filter and a secure system for protocols such as SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4. The optional extension contains a fully functional email server with mailboxes and shared electronic calendars.
The technology offers a complex solution for email correspondence and electronic calendars for the entire company. It contains tools ensuring inspection and protection of application protocols SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4, anti-spam, anti-malware inspection, access through www interface and synchronization support for mobile devices (ActiveSync). Kernun Mail Access can handle all electronic communication needs of the entire company.
Mobile devices
Kernun Mail Access supports synchronization with mobile devices such as PDA or mobile phones. Data are kept in the central server and the mobile device is gradually synchronized with the server in both ways (in and out). In case of data loss, all data are protected and kept in the server.

Safety and control
The high level of security enables you to use an application proxy for protocols, used for information transfer. An application proxy is a special programme, which "understands" the protocol and interprets the currently running connection and holds it safely in check. This is a very strong tool for data processing. For example, a proxy can even process each email attachment and at the same time, it can provide detailed information about running connections, from which you may get clear statistics and reports.

Application proxies
A large amount of application proxies are used to analyze transferred data and to interpret its contents. They may not be confused with the http-cache proxy that is used as buffering memory only and not as safety measures. The application proxy offers a higher level of security than status control of IP datagrams, because it eliminates direct communication between communicating parties. It works as a middle element; it assembles new and guaranteed to be correct connection towards the client and server. The proxy understands application protocols. If not, then it will not allow such connection.
Stateful packet inspection
All communication is checked by packet inspection tool. Modern and advanced stateful packet engine offers remote OS detection, bandwidth management and DoS protection combined with high level of both throughput and security. Moreover, bi-directional address translation, traffic normalization and detail connection logs are available.
Antivirus
Proxies designed for file transfer perform antivirus checks of the transferred data. Based on the configuration, some types of documents may be excluded from the inspection (for example, html or gif files) and based on the result produced by the antivirus programme, you may select a specific method of the document elimination, shredding, quarantine, replacement of the infected document by other document and so on. The following antivirus engines are supported: Dr.Web, NOD32, McAfee, Symantec, Clamav.
Antispam
Proxies for electronic mail protocols enable you to perform anti-spam checks of transferred messages. Combined with antivirus inspection, you may build a robust system that will keep your mailbox clean.
Optional extensions
SMTP/MAPI server
Optional extension – adding an smtp server with e-mail boxes, email spool and a shared calendar. This option significantly extends the functionality, to the point when you reach a stage where Kernun Mail Access becomes a fully functional substitute for a corporate exchange server.
High Availability Option
This extension offers a guarantee, ensuring that the services will be available. This is possible because the product consists of two or more mutual back up hardware devices, a so-called hot stand-by cluster. It supports connections to more than one Internet provider and distribution of loads between them.
Managed services
It enables the customer to fully rely on qualified and guaranteed software maintenance services (repair and new version installations), as well as configuration modifications. Sophisticated Kernun technology eliminates problems caused by the human factor, which means, information absence along with professional knowledge of security issues.
Typical implementation
The typical implementation of the Kernun Mail Access technology is maintained inside the inner company network or in the DMZ network. All email correspondence is directed to this server. Clients have Server Kernun Mail Access set as their SMTP/POP/IMAP/MAPI server. All incoming and outgoing mail is subject to thorough inspections in applicable proxy applications.
Travelling employees may check their email box through a www page, where they can authorize their access with a password or via another more sophisticated authorization method (usually with a certificate). Mobile phones and PDA may be synchronized via "air".
